Mental Health Counseling has not been a serious topic or an issue to be addressed in the last two decades in the churches; however, thankfully it is not carried the same way in understanding, with the current church pastors, elders, and leaders to serve their congregation better. Significant changes have been incorporated in the administration of the local churches, as they serve their congregation and community by, either becoming the host of Alcoholics Anonymous groups and Sexual Addiction groups or they have formed their own anxiety and depression groups, cancer caregiving, and elderly care under the category of ‘Soul Care’ ministries. This is a big step and great leap of faith for the Christian community, by the working of the Holy Spirit as He has gifted the church with gifts of helps, mercy, exhortation, encouragement, as counseling modalities, with strength and grace supplied by God (Rom 12, 1 Cor 12; 1 Pet 4); the skepticism of mental health counseling is decreasing, and the idea of, all mental health issues can be addressed with God’s word are discerned with appropriate discussions with church leaders and Chirstian counseling professionals. This healthy discussion stems from God’s providential care and provision from the natural world that He has created (Gen 1:1-25; Rom 1:19-20; Acts 14:17) and the humanity He has created in His image with intelligence, curiosity, and scientific explorations of His world. God gave them wisdom, intellect, and authority to govern His world (Gen 1:26-28), and has worked out for the benefit of the church congregation and hence the powerful witness of the gospel to the local community that, only God saves. We as counselors can take comfort in the word of God and the work of the Holy Spirit that He has equipped us specifically to encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, and be patient with everyone (1 Thess 5:14), for the support of the church and for the glory of our God!
