About
As the clinical director of one of the larger Christian Counseling organizations covering Idaho and Washington I lead a staff of 5 therapists and a professional office manager who work with Christian individuals and couples that suffer from trust damage, sexual compulsivity, infidelity, and sex addiction as well as anger, anxiety, depression, and a host of relationship issues to assist them in restoring healthy balance, strong boundaries, relapse prevention, and relationship reconciliation where possible. Can we help you?"
I have a strong belief that relationship permanence can be one of the most anchoring realities in a person's life. Without healthy bonding and attachment we can attempt to fulfil unmet needs in the wrong direction, the wrong places, and with wrong people. Even in functioning marriages the long-term affect of secrecy, isolation, woundedness, and neglect can destroy intimacy and trust. This is further compounded when one or more partner has answered the siren call of the internet as a means of sexual or emotional fulfilment. Cybersex involvement has increased to where it now plays some role in over 60% of broken marriages and relationships.
As a Gottman-trained couples therapists we frequently help couples with trust repair, better communication, and a variety of couple therapy issues.
We are all masters degree therapists (or interns) with degrees ranging from ministry to counseling psychology and have extensive formal and informal training in sexual addiction. Some of us have facilitated or co-facilitated recovery groups in the Seattle area and now in Idaho. As the director I have authored one book, "Prayer In Counseling ... The Practitioner's Handbook" and one seminar manual, "The Color Concordance".
Why I Became a Professional Christian Therapist
One of the larger disconnects in Christian Counseling is that while 82% of Christian clients welcome prayer at least some of the time, only about 16% of Christian counselors are implementing audible prayer in their sessions and 27% are using prayer inside or outside of the session. However, 79% of Christian counselors agree with the idea of prayer for clients (compared with 11% of secular therapists). At Bright Hearts we use informed consent (client written permission) to assure we don't presume spiritual interventions yet we boldly implement prayer and Scripture upon request because we are all believers!
