My Christian Faith and My Professional Practice
A personal life crisis changed my focus from pursuing my degree in school counseling to Christian counseling. As my husband and I sat in front of a social worker, listening to her tell us that our marriage had little chance of making it and that we should very seriously consider divorce, I couldn't wrap my head around what was happening. It was at that moment when I realized that I, a Godly, Christian woman, was at a crossroads in my life, watching my marriage fall apart yet knowing what God had intended for marriage. Through much courage, I asked my husband to consider seeing a faith-based counselor. He agreed and our marriage survived. I realized that we all struggle through life's issues, despite our faith and relationship with God. I realized, too, that our faith oftentimes isn't taken into consideration during mainstream counseling sessions, and so I shifted gears to become a voice for those people who, like me, were experiencing challenges even as Christians. I love what I do and am so blessed to be able to wholly and completely help my clients meet their needs spiritually, physically and emotionally.
