We utilize a humanistic approach that includes empirically sound and proven evidence-based practices to help our patients overcome their addictions and manage any other co-occurring mental health disorders.

Why I Became a Professional Christian Therapist

I overcame the hardships of growing up in a poor socio-economic environment and enduring early childhood sexual and physical abuse (which led him to a chronic drug addiction). For many years, while I suffered from addiction, I experienced multiple near-death events, including being shot in the head. I was stabbed multiple times, had relationship disruptions, periodic homelessness, employment disruptions, low low-self-worth, and most importantly, an unexplainable spiritual event in 2006 that freed me from the bondage of addiction (described in my autobiography “Fear to Freedom from Dumpster to Doctor”). After many months of painstaking introspective work on myself, forgiving everyone who hurt me or I perceived hurt me, and making amends for my past mistakes, I realized that my past pain pushed me to my purpose in life.

In my efforts to become more effective at helping others, I went back to school in 2006 and subsequently earned a Substance Use Disorder Specialist Certificate from Glendale Community College and became a Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor. In 2007, I attended Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, CA., and earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in human development with a Specialization in Early Childhood Education.

In 2011 I was accepted to the Chicago School of Professional Psychology where I subsequently earned my Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology. Moreover, in 2023, I earned a Certificate in Corporate Governance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School-Executive Education Program.
During my time in school, I conducted intensive studies and research on addiction and human development, mostly to get answers to what I had experienced during my life. Those studies include my doctoral dissertation, “Human Developmental Risk Factors Associated with Adolescent Substance Use Disorders” (Pro-Quest, 2015), and my Master Thesis, “Exploring Psychopathology and Low Self-Esteem and its Correlation with Adolescent Substance Abuse” (Pacific Oaks College, 2012).

In addition to my studies, I gained many years of experience working in mid-level management positions in hospitals and commercial building Environmental Services Departments (1981 to 1996), as an independent, self-employed Certified Professional Fitness and Nutrition expert (1998 to 2016), and as a Certified Counselor and Clinical Director at various Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers in the Los Angeles County area (2007 to present).
In 2015 I founded Dedicato Treatment Center Inc. which is Certified by the California Department of Health Care Services and accredited by the Joint Commission, to provide Intensive Substance Use Disorder Treatment which includes co-occurring Mental Health Disorders.

I am the author of two books, “Fear to Freedom: From Dumpster to Doctor” (Dorrance Publishing, 2022), which is an autobiography about my life overcoming childhood sexual and physical abuse, fear, faulty thinking, and addiction, and “Factors of Transformation: Be the Change You Want” (Dorrance Publishing, 2022) which is a book that describes intentional thinking and actions to transform, emerge, and become, the best version of your authentic self. (Dorrance Publishing).

In June 2023, I received the prestigious “Presidential Life-Time Achievement Award for Volunteer Services” alongside multi-Emmy Award and Oscar Award-winning Actor and cultural icon Mr. Louis Gossett Jr., multi-Grammy Award winner Pastor Donnie McClurkin, Model Michelle Roxan, and Political Activist Jan Perry.
