About

I am Dr. Chet Weld, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Arizona. I have over forty years of experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups in a variety of counseling, mental health, and ministry settings.

My educational background includes studies at Ohio Wesleyan University, Union Theological Seminary, University of Arizona, Grace Bible College (in Tucson, Arizona), Ohio State University, Argosy University, and other schools. I have completed continuing education in counseling, psychology, marriage and family relationships, trauma, and related areas of personal growth and emotional well-being. My doctorate is in Counseling Psychology.

Counseling services are tailored to the unique needs, strengths, goals, and circumstances of each client and may incorporate a variety of evidence-based approaches. Upon request, counseling may also include discussion of spiritual issues and the use of prayer and scripture as appropriately related to a client's goals, values, and beliefs.

My goal is to provide a professional, respectful, and collaborative counseling environment in which clients can explore concerns, develop new skills, strengthen relationships, and work toward meaningful change.

Why I Became a Professional Christian Therapist

I was not a Christian when I earned my M.Ed. in Counseling and Guidance. Soon after getting the masters, I realized that I was in no psychological/emotional shape to actually be a counselor. I abused drugs and alcohol in my 20s, quit abusing without knowing the Lord after I graduated, and then became extremely desperate for emotional and physical healing. A girlfriend suggested that I pray. Right then I prayed silently and God answered my prayer almost immediately. I cried till 6 AM, called my girlfriend in the morning, and she took me to church on Sunday. I could feel the Spirit very strongly in the service. I began to read the word, attend Bible studies, attend church, and soon ministered in music with songs God gave me and with praise and worship music. It wasn't until much later that I earned my doctorate, but I never turned back and I've never regretted one moment of following Jesus! I attended that church for 17 years, was on staff for 12 years as a counselor for the last ten of those years (I was a janitor at the church for about 1 & 1/2 years), and was the director of counseling. I learned how to integrate all that I knew about psychology and counseling with scriptures and have been a Christian-based counselor ever since.
