About

Do you want to work with a therapist who appreciates your spiritual journey? Would you like to feel a sense of resonance with your counselor as you talk about the matters of faith or doubt with which you struggle?

For over 40 years I have helped clients like you: I see clients virtually through Zoom, WhatApp Or FaceTime.

-To explore their search for meaning and purpose during a midlife crisis

-To face their depression and draw from the resources of their religious or spiritual experience and find a new sense of hope

-To ground themselves in the midst anxiety to discover the means to find a new kind of peace

-To sort through the dark nights of the soul to claim a new vision of a sense of God that has gotten that can grow

-To tackle unnecessary guilt that may result from parents who were punitive so that your sense of what God expects may feel similar

As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I will use tools found in most therapy offices. Only in my work with you, if you are so inclined, we will tap those experiences in the past that have given you strength and hope. We will uncover obstacles to finding the support from your faith community or your reading of the scriptures of your tradition.

Why I Became a Professional Christian Therapist

As the son of a minister, I had always thought about becoming a preacher. Midway through Princeton Seminary, Only I recognized I did not want to preach each Sunday and run all of those committee meetings.

I sensed I would prefer to help people through talk therapy and offering a compassionate presence for understanding themselves. So I graduated from Seminary and took a three-year full-time study at the American Foundation of Religion and Psychiatry, ( now the Blanton-Peale Graduate Institute). I received a Doctorate of Ministry from Andover Newton which led to my licensure in NY State as a Marriage and Family Therapist.

I find my background in growing up in the Bible Belt helps me appreciate the Biblical understanding that many people hold dear. However, some people find themselves trapped by a sense of a punitive God, not unlike their parents. Their religion has left them with a bunch of shoulds that they do not feel they can live up to.

In my work, I guide people in exploring their scripture to find the life that Jesus promised, when he said, "I come that you may have life and have it more abundantly."

I work with people who are feeling neurotic guilt. I enjoy caring about those who are on a spiritual journey to find more meaning and purpose. I do this within the tenants of their tradition.

I will help you discover what carries meaning for you. I will never become an authority who tells you what you should do.
