The Mind-Body Health Connection

The field of neuropsychology and medicine have been studying the mind-body connection for several years. In more recent years research in the field has yielded an upsurge of observed and increasingly compelling findings indicating that mind-body interactions are at the root of health and disease.

Did you know panic attacks trigger a surge of adrenaline, cortisol, and immune-system activity that can cause your heart to beat erratically? Similarly, depression can trigger a constant flood of adrenaline and cortisol which can result in impaired mood, reduced cognitive function, adrenal fatigue, weight gain, metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

A cheerful heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit makes one sick. (Proverbs 17:22)

At InTouch Mind Health, we strive to provide relevant psychotherapeutic and counseling interventions aimed at enabling people to find fullness of life in Christ, by facilitating emotional healing and supporting spiritual growth.

Our biblical approach to counseling is solid, evidenced by our client base which is largely comprised of patient referrals including Pastors and people in church leadership positions. We serve people from various churches in downtown Chicago, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Humboldt Park, Niles, and Glenview.

Why I Became a Professional Christian Therapist

My name is Yvette Yonan and I am a licensed mental health clinician. I studied bible and theology at Trinity International University prior to achieving my MSW in Clinical Mental Health from Loyola University of Chicago. I gave my life to Christ 29 years ago, when as I walked through my personal healing journey I learned that healing for Christians is found in God and in the application of His word to our lives. My life verse is Isaiah 61: 1-3: "The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor." (NIV)
