About

Hello, I am Dr. Chris Coleman. I work with those struggling with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, anger & trauma issues, substance use disorders and abuse, families working through those with family members struggling with substance use issues, those struggling in their walk with God and things of the world & Men’s Issues. Also, I am an ordained minister, disciple, believer & follower of Christ.

I have obtained a PhD, 2 Masters degrees: Professional Counseling & Addiction Counseling & 2 licenses in Virginia: Licensed Professional Counselor & Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Provider. I am licensed in Maryland as an LCPC, North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, in Washington, D.C. as a therapist and substance use disorder therapist (CAC II). I work with those challenged with substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders (mental health & substance use). I have over two decades in the field, demonstrating compassion, non-condemning, empathic setting, with a direct approach to meet you where you are.

My private practice, Liberation Counseling & Consultation, LLC was birthed 2019, with 2 Corinthians 3:17 as a mission statement: "Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” Having worked in this field for the time I have, there is one of many statements that help guide me in working with you: "If it causes a problem, then it is a problem".

I’ll use an integration approach of Cognitive Behavioral & Cognitive Processing, Motivational interviewing, Narrative, Reality/Choice Therapy, Dialectical behavioral & Trauma informed approach, group therapy, Accceptance & Commitment Therapy skills—all based from and in a biblical worldview, with The Bible as the foundation.

Why I Became a Professional Christian Therapist

I don’t like bullies and Satan (The Devil, Lucifer/The Accuser of The Brethren) is a bully. I entered this field with passion and compassion stemming from John 10:10-NKJV-"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."My strengths start with my compassion and empathy for people, and the two greatest tools: My ears! and heart! Hearing your story of what your desire, ability, reason, need, commitment, activation and time to change is. Why? to get you, liberated!
