Oakland Hills Counseling is a team of dedicated Christian professionals with advanced degrees in counseling and psychology, each licensed by the State of Michigan. We provide child, adolescent, and adult counseling services, as well as a broad range of relationship and mental health related seminars. We are committed to helping individuals, couples and families find practical solutions to the problems and challenges they face. Professional Experience:
Sherry’s areas of concentration include individual, couples, family and group therapy; helping clients experiencing relational difficulties, depression, anxiety, anger-control management, stage of life and boundary issues, loss, and other areas of emotional concern. She is also skilled at and enjoys working with adolescents, joining with them as they navigate through a complex season of life. Further experience includes pre-marital preparation and marriage enhancement counseling.

Sherry has also served as a teacher and group therapist at Life Challenge in Detroit, Michigan, a one year residential substance abuse treatment facility. Previously she practiced at Intersessions Psychological Services Clinic in Plymouth, Michigan. Her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Moody Theological Seminary has provided her with an opportunity to integrate a Christian worldview with psychology in order to provide a faith-based foundation to psychotherapy. Professional Experience:
Dennis is a retired police detective from the Southfield Police Department where he served for 24 years (1988-2012). Dennis joined the Oakland Hills Counseling team July 2014. Previously, Dennis worked as a psychologist for Starr/PsychSytems from 2012 through 2014 where he provided psychological services for Oakland, Wayne and Macomb County Community Mental Health consumers as well as treating clients at the outpatient clinic for depression, anxiety and behavioral issues. Dennis also served as a faculty assistant at Moody Theological Seminary of Michigan in the psychology department. While at Moody, Dennis treated clients at Inter Sessions, the psychological services clinic on the campus of Moody. After retiring from the police department, Dennis continued utilizing his analytical skills as a Special Investigator for GEICO Insurance conducting complex investigations into fraudulent insurance claims (2013-2015).

Professional Experience:
Karen Shive specializes in adolescent and women’s issues, marital, and family therapy at Oakland Hills Counseling. Karen and her husband, Rob, lead marriage and premarital workshops, retreats, and designed the MarriageBuilders teaching and small group curriculum. She is passionate about helping couples develop emotional, spiritual, and physical intimacy, and grow in their communication and conflict resolution skills. Karen is also skilled in working with women and adolescent girls, and teaches on many parenting, marriage, and women’s issues in addition to her counseling work. As mother to an internationally adopted child, she is dedicated to helping parents and adopted children understand their unique issues and grow to thrive. Karen is on the women’s leadership team at her church, and is a regular Bible teacher.

Professional Experience:
Rob Shive is the Owner and Executive Director of Oakland Hills Counseling, LLC, a position he assumed in September 2008. Previously, Rob served as the Executive Director of Christian Family Services from 2006-2008, and has been a professional counselor specializing in marital and premarital counseling since 1993. Rob also served as a youth pastor as well as a campus minister with Campus Crusade for Christ.

Rob holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from East Carolina University and a master’s degree in Counseling from Denver Seminary. He has been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) since 1993. Sheela Wright specializes in relationship issues with couples, individuals and adolescents. Sheela focuses on working with life transitions, anxiety, depression, identity development, empathy enhancement, and self-esteem.
