About
I’m Dr. Karen Liddell, a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor with NCCA-advanced board certifications in Marriage & Family Therapy, Child & Youth Therapy, and Temperament Therapy. I graduated Summa cum laude from Colorado Theological Seminary with a doctorate in Clinical Christian Counseling. I graduated from Valdosta State University with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology. I am trained in all forms of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, including Family Systems, REBT, Gestalt, and Logotherapy. I earned certification in Dual Diagnosis with Addiction; Group Therapy; Grief & Loss, EFT/FEFT, and NLP, with experience in EMDR, Process Healing Method, and Conversational Hypnotherapy, which means relaxing the mind and body so you can listen within to the Holy Spirit.
I focus on applying a Biblical view to neuroplasticity. The brain and mind can unlearn trauma and learn new, more helpful, and satisfying patterns. This results in lasting positive changes. As a result, most clients experience deep and lasting changes, in less time.
I help individuals, including children and teens, couples, families, and groups. Children and teens appreciate that I can help them even if they don’t want to tell me the details. We set goals they want to reach and form a path to get there, assisting adolescents in developing more self-esteem, and improving their coping skills, communication, and feelings of belonging in their family relationships.
My program is most successful with people who recognize they need change, are ready to change, and believe it’s possible. They can identify at least one problem or unreached goal and are committed to learning something new. The clients that experience the fastest changes are those most willing to consider new perspectives about their pain or people and try new approaches. We're not going to talk a lot about the whys; we'll address the what - what is wrong and what you want instead. You're a great fit if you're ready to release the trauma and embrace joy, forgiveness, and freedom!
Key verses that support Christian and Biblical counseling are Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, and John 5:6.
I’ve written a comprehensive book on my method, called Brain Retrain: The How-To Renew Your Mind Guide.
My Christian Faith and My Professional Practice
We'll rely on what the Bible says about you, your mind, your identity, your life in Christ, and your purpose.
Step One: we’ll resolve the core or root issues.
Step Two: we’ll define and create what you want to have, be, or do next: improve your relationships, develop spiritually, increase financially, or start that career, book, or adventure!
Step Three: you’ll learn to brain retrain as a natural and easy part of your life.
The Lord transforms us by renewing our minds, yet we must take every thought captive and train it in Truth (Romans 12:2; 2 Corinthians 10:5).
We’ll take thoughts, beliefs, and trauma captive, retraining them to agree with God's plan to help you, to give you hope and a prosperous future (Jer. 29:11).
He plans that you heal in mind, body, and finances (3 John 2:1).
